HCA, in partnership with the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), is pleased to announce the recipients of the HCA Corris Boyd Scholarship for 2014. Two students have been selected to receive $40,000 scholarships towards a master’s degree in healthcare management from the AUPHA-member program of their choice.

The HCA Corris Boyd Scholars Program was established in 2006 in honor of Mr. Corris Boyd, a senior healthcare executive with HealthTrust Purchasing Group and HCA. Boyd dedicated himself to diversity and excellence in leadership – especially among people of color. In his honor, the program annually provides scholarships to two deserving minority students. This year’s recipients are Shekinah Bell and Jennifer Dingle.

Shekinah Bell will enter the University of Michigan School of Public Health beginning in Fall 2014, where she will begin working towards a Master’s in Health Management & Policy. “As you can image, I was delighted to receive a phone call from a Corris Boyd Scholarship representative notifying me that I was a recipient of your award. It has truly been a blessing and relief to know that you will support my educational pursuit for the next two years” says Shekinah. I am so grateful for your generosity, and I am honored to receive the Corris Boyd Scholarship. I cannot say thank you enough."

Jennifer Dingle will also begin her graduate work at the University of Michigan School of Public Health beginning in Fall 2014, where she will pursue her master’s degree in the Health Management & Policy MHSA graduate program. Jennifer states that “I am honored to have been selected as one of the 2014 Corris Boyd Scholarship recipients. As a recipient of this scholarship I will strive to carry out the mission of Mr. Boyd and to continue to serve and impact the community. This scholarship will allow me to work toward my goal of becoming an administrator in a pediatric healthcare facility and providing all patients, regardless of socioeconomic background, especially children, high-quality, evidence-based healthcare.”

“As in past years, we have been impressed with the accomplishments, dedication and quality of the 2014 Corris Boyd Scholars applicant pool,” says Gerald L. Glandon, PhD, President & CEO of AUPHA. “Jennifer and Shekinah rose to the top by virtue of their excellence and diligence that was exemplified by Corris Boyd, and we are truly honored to recognize them for their achievements as they continue to pursue their educational and professional goals.”
